Word. Sound. Life. is the combined effort of several Bay Area & Chicago performers, media artists, educators, community activists, students, residents and other groups & community-based organizations who appreciate the importance of independently produced media and diverse forms of cultural and community expression (mural art, spoken word, dance, improv, music, documentaries, ...). All proceeds from WSL will go to support local cultural partnerships and multimedia-related community workshops, performances and activities. The WSL Planning Committee welcomes individuals and organizations interested in multicultural performance, community education and multimedia arts. For more information, email akwerius@ischool.berkeley.edu or call 510.280.4427.

Agenda:

I. Open Space (mural, gallery, exhibits, hands-on)

II. Improvisation (poets, comedians, musicians, artists)

III. Beat Society (beatmakers)

IV. Performance I (spoken soul jazz)

V. Video (documentaries, music, games, animation)

VI. Performance II (afro roots hop)

VII. Closing Assembly (meditation, cypher)

The events are made possible thanks to the contributions of several teachers, students and artists for whom each instance of Word. Sound. Life. is presented as an opportunity to share the latest media projects produced by youth in class or after-school. The project runs like a cooperative game in which both adults and teens play a particular role offline, as well as in our online mash-up community:
